On Friday, April 23 the 91´«Ã½ celebrated Earth DayÌýwith its annual Earth Day of 91´«Ã½-ing. The University’s Center for Sustainability convened 115 volunteers from across campus who collectively completed nearly 200Ìýhours of work over the course of the day.

Though social distancing and other COVID guidelines necessitated a smaller event, volunteers were able to work in shifts at three separate sites to make an impact on the Earth and the 91´«Ã½ community.

The first project, dubbed the "clean community crew," collected 20 bags of trash in the neighborhoods around 91´«Ã½. Meanwhile, volunteers at 91´«Ã½â€™s Bridge Community Garden cleared compost, spread mulch, pulled weeds, cleared debris and repaired garden beds. Others cleared a fence and other yard debris atÌýaÌýhouse renovated by 91´«Ã½ students participating in the Solar Decathlon.Ìý

Emily Schosid, 91´«Ã½â€™s sustainability program coordinator, called this year’s Earth Day event “a huge success."
